Our Core Team
The dedicated group of women running Care Masters day to day — leading programs, communications, partnerships, operations, and the food security and chronic disease prevention work that supports families across our community. Between 2024 and 2025, we hired 9 ACB women across our team — because economic empowerment starts within our own community.
Meet Our Founder
Michelle Edwards
Executive Director & Founder
Michelle Edwards founded Care Masters in 2017 to create what she wished had existed for her growing up as a young Black girl in Mississauga. She is a single mother of three, a former Child and Youth Worker, a foster parent, and a foster care case manager who spent eight years training and supervising foster families. She is a Certified Life Coach, Certified Reiki Practitioner, and holds a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from York University.
Michelle leads through her own lived experience — navigating disability after a hit-and-run accident, healing from an abusive relationship, and raising her family while building Care Masters from a grassroots movement into a registered Canadian charity. Her passion for economic empowerment, personal development, and community-centred healing drives everything Care Masters does.
"My lived experience fuels this vision. I know what it feels like to need community and not have it. That’s why Care Masters exists — so no woman or family has to heal alone."
Our Board of Directors
Care Masters is governed by a Board of Directors made up of seven ACB women who reflect the lived experiences of the community we serve. They bring expertise in psychology, public service, executive leadership, financial services, human resources, family advocacy, and engineering — and a shared commitment to seeing Black women, youth, and families flourish.

As Chronic Disease Prevention Program Coordinator, she leads our newest initiative — a one-year program funded through the Mississauga Foundation’s Novo Nordisk Chronic Disease Fund — supporting Black women and families in preventing and managing chronic disease through culturally rooted education and community wellness. She brings compassion, organization, and a deep commitment to removing barriers for the families we serve.

As School Programs Coordinator, she leads our Junior Wealth Builders program — a financial literacy and entrepreneurship initiative for Black youth in partnership with Peel Schools — and supports our wider school partnership work. As Social Media Lead, she brings our community work to life online, sharing the joy, healing, and impact of Care Masters with our growing audience.
