Welcome to Care Masters, a dedicated non-profit organization that stands as a
beacon of hope for African/Caribbean/Black women and their families throughout
the Greater Toronto Area. We are committed to breaking down systemic barriers and
fostering a community where mental wellness is a priority.

Our Mission

Care Masters is committed to offering transformative, culturally responsive mental health support tailored to the unique challenges faced by Black women, families, and youth, empowering them to heal, grow, and thrive.

Our Vision

We envision a community where Black women, families, and youth thrive in safe, inclusive spaces, free from barriers to mental wellness, and united in empowerment and growth.

Our Approach

Recognizing the unique hurdles faced by Black women, children, and families, our services are carefully tailored to address not only the mental health needs but also the systemic injustices that exacerbate these challenges. From navigating the family court system to combating educational disparities and addressing challenges in community interactions, our holistic approach ensures that all dimensions of well-being are supported. We empower our community members to advocate for their mental health, embodying the mantra 'I am Mastering Self Care.

Our Foundation

At the core of Care Masters lies a deeply personal story of resilience and courage.
Michelle Edwards, our Executive Director, was propelled to establish our organization
after her own journey of healing and growth. She shares:
Picture
'I was inspired to focus on mental wellness for Black women and families after my separation and experience of starting over as a single mother of three in a different city with limited resources. That feeling of being isolated and alone was something I knew we could change for other Black women going through the journey of self-discovery and while healing after trauma.'
Our founder, board members, and most of our team have faced their own traumas and struggles with mental health—feeling alone, misunderstood, ashamed, or scared to share their pain. At Care Masters, we're all about breaking that isolation. We want to create spaces where we can take off our masks and superhero capes, share our stories openly, and find the tools we need to heal together. We're here to support each other on this journey to mental wellness, as a community.

Our Future

Our recognition as a Federal Charitable Organization has opened new avenues for
growth and community engagement, enabling us to offer comprehensive support
services. As we continue to grow, Care Masters remains dedicated to innovation and
excellence in mental health support. We are constantly developing new programs
and forging partnerships that align with our mission to support the mental wellness
of Black women and families, ensuring every individual has the opportunity to thrive
in a supportive community.
