Our Mission
Care Masters is committed to offering transformative, culturally responsive mental
health support tailored to the unique challenges faced by our community. We
address the profound scars left by anti-Black racism, abuse, violence, and
generational trauma. Our programs also tackle the impact of family breakdowns,
divorce, and separation; navigate biased educational and judicial systems; and
counter work-related discrimination and societal stigma. By enhancing emotional
development, coping strategies, and community connections, we empower Black
women and their families towards achieving mental vitality and resilience.

families can remove their masks, live authentically, and heal together in a safe,
culturally respectful space. Our vision is to dismantle financial and systemic barriers
to mental wellness, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their economic situation,
has access to the tools they need for mental vitality and resilience. We are
committed to fostering a society that celebrates the strength and diversity of our
community, where systemic changes are achieved through unity and the collective
empowerment of all its members.

Our Foundation
At the core of Care Masters lies a deeply personal story of resilience and courage.
Michelle Edwards, our Executive Director, was propelled to establish our organization
after her own journey of healing and growth. She shares:
Michelle Edwards, our Executive Director, was propelled to establish our organization
after her own journey of healing and growth. She shares:
'I was inspired to focus on mental wellness for Black women and families after my separation and experience of starting over as a single mother of three in a different city with limited resources. That feeling of being isolated and alone was something I knew we could change for other Black women going through the journey of self-discovery and while healing after trauma.'

This poignant experience shaped the foundation of Care Masters and has continued
to guide our mission. We are rooted in the understanding that individual experiences
of struggle are a powerful catalyst for communal healing and empowerment.
