Our Mission
Care Masters is committed to offering transformative, culturally responsive mental health support tailored to the unique challenges faced by our community. We address the profound scars left by anti-Black racism, abuse, violence, and generational trauma. Our programs also tackle the impact of family breakdowns, divorce, and separation; navigate biased educational and judicial systems; and counter work-related discrimination and societal stigma. By enhancing emotional development, coping strategies, and community connections, we empower Black women and their families towards achieving mental vitality and resilience.
Our Vision
At Care Masters, we envision a future where every member of our community is embraced as family, with their struggles acknowledged and supported by a compassionate network. We strive to create a world where Black women and families can remove their masks, live authentically, and heal together in a safe, culturally respectful space. Our vision is to dismantle financial and systemic barriers to mental wellness, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their economic situation, has access to the tools they need for mental vitality and resilience. We are committed to fostering a society that celebrates the strength and diversity of our community, where systemic changes are achieved through unity and the collective empowerment of all its members.
Our Approach
Recognizing the unique hurdles faced by Black women, children, and families, our services are carefully tailored to address not only the mental health needs but also the systemic injustices that exacerbate these challenges. From navigating the family court system to combating educational disparities and addressing challenges in community interactions, our holistic approach ensures that all dimensions of well-being are supported. We empower our community members to advocate for their mental health, embodying the mantra 'I am Mastering Self Care.
Our Foundation
At the core of Care Masters lies a deeply personal story of resilience and courage.
Michelle Edwards, our Executive Director, was propelled to establish our organization
after her own journey of healing and growth. She shares:

after her own journey of healing and growth. She shares:
'I was inspired to focus on mental wellness for Black women and families after my separation and experience of starting over as a single mother of three in a different city with limited resources. That feeling of being isolated and alone was something I knew we could change for other Black women going through the journey of self-discovery and while healing after trauma.'

Our founder, board members, and most of our team have faced their own traumas and struggles with mental health—feeling alone, misunderstood, ashamed, or scared to share their pain. At Care Masters, we're all about breaking that isolation. We want to create spaces where we can take off our masks and superhero capes, share our stories openly, and find the tools we need to heal together. We're here to support each other on this journey to mental wellness, as a community.
